      Foods

Everest Base Camp Travel includes food as part of the Everest Three Pass Trek package, ensuring you have tasty meals throughout your adventure.

Starting your journey in Kathmandu, you'll get to enjoy lots of tasty local foods like momos, which are popular dumplings, and dal bhat, a traditional meal with lentil soup, rice, and sides. These dishes give you a great introduction to Nepalese cuisine.

As you go up into the Khumbu region, the trek has a unique dining experience called teahouse dining. Teahouses along the trail serve filling meals to keep you going. Even though the altitude and remote places might limit the ingredients, you can still enjoy things like noodle soup, fried rice, and the reliable dal bhat. Special local dishes like Sherpa stew and meals with yak meat give you a taste of the region's culture. Eating in these cozy teahouses also lets you connect with other trekkers over shared meals, making the trek even more enjoyable.

      Accommodation

The comfort and safety of our trekkers are the main concerns for Everest Base Camp Travel when choosing accommodations. The lodges selected for that trek feature facilities that outweigh the ones found in ordinary teahouses. While the majority of rooms are twin-sharing, our guides will arrange accommodation based on gender. If you are a couple or prefer individual rooms within a group, please inform us before the trek, and we will make the necessary arrangements to accommodate your needs.

The trek commences in Kathmandu, where trekkers will enjoy a comfortable stay in accommodations such as a 3-star hotel or a similar standard. These lodgings provide a serene environment, allowing travelers to relax and prepare for the exciting adventure that lies ahead.

Once the trek begins, the majority of accommodations during the journey will be in traditional teahouses. Scattered along the trekking trail, these teahouses offer cozy rooms with basic furnishings. Despite variations in comfort levels, each teahouse provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local hospitality. Communal dining areas in these teahouses create opportunities for trekkers to share experiences and build connections.

Bathroom facilities along the Everest Three Passes Trek generally consist of shared bathrooms in teahouses with basic amenities, including hot showers. These facilities, though simple, are well-maintained and adhere to high hygiene standards, providing a clean and sanitary environment for trekkers to refresh after a day of challenging trekking.

As you ascend to higher altitudes, especially beyond Chhukung, the teahouses may become more basic due to the challenging environment. Despite the simplicity, they offer a unique and authentic experience, allowing you to connect with the raw beauty of the Himalayas.

      Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), poses a significant risk to trekkers, particularly when ascending rapidly without adequate acclimatization. Skipping the recommended acclimatization days or ascending too quickly heightens susceptibility to AMS. Importantly, it does not discriminate based on age, gender, or fitness level; even physically fit individuals are not immune. Those who have previously experienced it may be more prone to it on subsequent trips. While the overall death rate it causes is relatively low, severe cases can result in fatalities. The risk intensifies notably at altitudes surpassing 2,500 meters (8,200 feet). Recognizing the importance of gradual acclimatization, adhering to recommended ascent rates, being vigilant about symptoms, and listening to your experienced guide are crucial measures to deal with it. Our team has guides with each for more than 5+ years and has years of experience dealing with clients who had altitude sickness, so we got your back!

      Difficulty

The Everest Three High Pass Trek covers approximately 79 kilometers (49 miles) round trip, with daily walking distances ranging from 4 to 11 kilometers. As you ascend to altitudes above 5,000 meters (16,404 feet), the oxygen levels decrease significantly, typically ranging between 75% and 85% at Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters or 17,598 feet). The weather in the Everest region can be unpredictable, with cold temperatures and the possibility of snow adding to the overall challenge. It's crucial to be prepared for changing weather conditions. Altitude sickness is a real concern at higher elevations, though the overall death rate is low. Still, trekkers should be aware of the risks and prioritize safety by acclimatizing properly and paying attention to symptoms. It can be called a moderate trek.
