Upon your arrival at the airport in Kathmandu, our company representative will warmly welcome you and escort you to your hotel. You will receive a pre-trek briefing, and if you arrive early, you can explore the city. Your accommodations will be at one of the following hotels: Arushi Boutique Hotel, Samsara Boutique Hotel, Hotel Shambala, Hotel Crowne Imperial, or similar great establishments.

Note: This day is designated for trek preparation and briefing which will conducted either at our Thamel office or your hotel. Our team will provide details either the day before or upon picking you up from the airport.

Today marks the first day of the trek, as you fly from Kathmandu to Lukla by regular flight. The flight lasts around 45 minutes, after which you will meet with your local guides and porters, who may have flown in with you. Upon completing the necessary formalities in Lukla, you will begin your trek to Phakding, which takes about 3–4 hours. As you journey through the village, you can take in the local culture, architecture, and natural beauty, including the Chortens, prayer wheels, and stunning mountains such as Mount Nupla (5,885m), Mount Karyolung (6,511m), Mount Gongla (5,813m), and Kusum Kanguru (6,367m). You will spend the night in a warm lodge in Phakding.

After a light breakfast in Phakding, we will embark on a trek that takes approximately 6-7 hours to complete to the village of Namche Bazaar. Along the way, you will pass through pine, fir, and rhododendron forests and reach Monjo, the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. You can visit the Sherpa cultural museum and the Sagarmatha National Park Gallery, adding a fun element. The trail is easy to navigate and will take you to an elevation of 3450 meters, where you will cross the Tenjin Hillary Bridge. Walking at a moderate pace, you will be able to take in views of Mount Everest (8848.86m), Lhotse (8511m), Nuptse (7879m), Ama Dablam (6856m), and Tawache (6542m), among others, as you pass through pine trees and arrive at Namche Bazaar.

Today, you'll stay in Namche Bazaar for some time to adjust to the Himalayan environment and high altitude. Wake up early to catch a glimpse of the majestic mountains, and later explore the village and local market. Visit attractions like Sagarmatha National Park, Syangboche Airport, Hotel Everest View, and more. The day's main highlight will be the stunning views of the surrounding peaks, including Mount Everest (8848.86m), Lhotse Shar (8393m), Lhotse (8516m), Shar (6093m), Nupla (5885m), Ama Dablam (6814 m), and Tengi Ragi Tau (6983 m). The total altitude we'll travel this day is 3,840m on an easier trail.

Also visit Syangboche Hill and the Sherpa Museum. Make sure to shop for necessities, as it can be the last chance to buy anything missing from your trekking gear.

It'll take around 6 hours to reach Tengboche from Namche Bazaar, and we'll walk alongside the Dudh Koshi River, Phunki Thenga, and Imja Khola Valley, with mesmerizing sights of mountains like Mount Everest (8848.86m), Kangtega (6685m), Ama Dablam (6814m), Tengi Ragi Tau (6983m), and more. Keep an eye out for rare animals and birds like Himalayan Tahrs, Spotted Deer, and Danphe (the national bird of Nepal). The highest altitude we'll reach this day is 3,860m with a moderate walking pace. We'll stay overnight at local tea houses or lodges in Tengboche.

The journey leads us through forests and small villages adorned with diverse Chortens and Mani Walls. Ama Dablam mountain graces us with a closer view. The major highlights of the day include stunning vistas of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Taboche, Cholatse, Island Peak, and Lhotse Shar. Dingboche Monastery, along with Mani Walls and Chortens, adds a cultural touch to our trek. We'll encounter the steepest trail of the day before reaching Dingboche, where you can explore monasteries and engage with different communities. The trek spans around 6 hours, reaching an altitude of 4400 meters before we spend the night in Dingboche.

The trek involves ascending to higher altitudes, reaching an elevation of 4,910 meters. As we approach Lobuche, the landscape becomes more rugged and the air thinner, providing a taste of the challenges of high-altitude trekking. Lobuche is nestled in the midst of stunning mountain scenery, and we spend the night in local tea houses or lodges.

Start on an exciting day as we trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep after lunch and onward to Everest Base Camp (EBC). The trek to Gorak Shep covers a distance of approximately 4 kilometers, with mesmerizing views of iconic peaks like Nuptse, Everest, and Changtse. Upon reaching Gorak Shep, we proceed to Everest Base Camp, trekking across the Khumbu Glacier and immersing ourselves in the iconic surroundings.

As we stand at the base of the world's highest peak, Everest (8,848.86m), the sense of accomplishment and awe is unparalleled. Capture the breathtaking landscapes and the Khumbu Icefall, a stunning feature of the Everest region.

After spending time at Everest Base Camp, we retrace our steps back to Gorak Shep, where we'll spend the night. The day involves a challenging trek at higher altitudes, reaching an elevation of 5,364 meters at Everest Base Camp.

On this finishing line of the trek, we rush on a challenging ascent from Gorak Shep to the iconic viewpoint of Kala Patthar in the morning. The trail leads to an altitude of 5,545 meters, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the Everest massif, including the majestic Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, and numerous other peaks. The sunrise view of Everest will blow you away.

After savoring the breathtaking vistas from Kala Patthar, we descend back to Gorak Shep. From there, a thrilling helicopter ride awaits to transport us back to Lukla. The helicopter journey provides a unique aerial perspective of the Himalayan landscape, allowing you to relax and forget your miseries.

From Lukla, you will take a regular flight back to Kathmandu, which will take around 35 minutes. If you have a same-day flight, you can choose to say goodbye, or our representative will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

The Everest base camp trek with helicopter return is a popular trekking option in the Everest region of Nepal. This trek allows trekkers to experience the stunning beauty of the Khumbu region, including the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, while also providing the option for a helicopter return journey to Kathmandu or Lukla instead of retracing the entire trekking route on foot. Permits

To do the Everest Base Camp Heli Return Trek, you will need to obtain the following permits:

Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) card

  • All trekkers in Nepal, including Indian citizens and SAARC nationals, are required to obtain a TIMS card.
  • The cost of a TIMS card is NPR 2,000 (approximately USD 16) for all nationalities.
  • You can obtain a TIMS card from the NTB office in Kathmandu, authorized trekking agencies, or online through the NTB portal.

Sagarmatha National Park permit

  • All trekkers entering Sagarmatha National Park, which includes Everest Base Camp, are required to obtain a Sagarmatha National Park permit.
  • The cost of a Sagarmatha National Park permit is NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 24) for all nationalities.
  • You can obtain a Sagarmatha National Park permit from the NTB office in Kathmandu or at the park entrance gate in Monjo.

Everest Base Camp Heli Return Trek Difficulty

The Everest Base Camp trek covers approximately 79 kilometers (49 miles) round trip, with daily walking distances ranging from 4 to 11 kilometers. As you ascend to altitudes above 5,000 meters (16,404 feet), the oxygen levels decrease significantly, typically ranging between 75% and 85% at Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters or 17,598 feet). The weather in the Everest region can be unpredictable, with cold temperatures and the possibility of snow, adding to the overall challenge. It's crucial to be prepared for changing weather conditions. Altitude sickness is a real concern at higher elevations, though the overall death rate is low. Still, trekkers should be aware of the risks and prioritize safety by acclimatizing properly and paying attention to symptoms. This trek can be called a moderate trek.

The tea houses have shared bathrooms that are simple and practical. These bathrooms have basic amenities, like hot showers, which are great after a day of trekking. Best seasons to do Everest Base Camp Trek and Return by Helicopter 

Summer (pre-monsoon) and fall (post-monsoon) are the best times to do the Everest base camp trips. These times are usually from late March to early June and late September to early November. The weather is pretty stable during these times, with clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it a great time for trekking. In the spring, the trails are green and bright, and in the fall, you can see the mountains. These times of the year are the safest and most fun for trekking to Everest base camp, with little chance of problems caused by the monsoons and very cold weather.
