Route

Your arrival at Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport is the first step towards embarking on the Everest Trek. Once you reach the airport, you will meet our team and your guide, who will drop you off at the hotel and give you a brief overview and information regarding your upcoming days.

Your 14-day trek to Mount Everest base camp starts with a brief, scenic flight to Lukla, a beautiful town. You will meet the hospitable Sherpa people, who are recognized for their rich culture and welcoming nature, while also indulging in a great breakfast here. In peak seasons like spring and autumn, direct flights to Lukla from Kathmandu might not be available due to the increase in the number of travelers. In such a case, the route will be from Kathmandu to Ramechhap by local bus or jeep, which will approximately take 6 to 7 hours. Then, we will be taking a flight to Lukla from Ramechhap.

The route to EBC begins on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River and travels to Namche Bazaar via the Sagarmatha National Park. Known as an acclimatization destination, Namche serves as the primary trade hub in the Everest area.

Although the trek is difficult, the breathtaking views of the mountains, hills, farms, and lush woods will motivate you to continue. After a day of acclimatization, you will leave Namche Bazaar and resume our EBC trek to Porsche.

The next morning, you will hike from Porsche to Dingboche. After a day of acclimatization in Dingboche, we will resume our hike the following morning and finally go towards Lobuche. You will be able to observe several peaks, including Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam, while hiking.

You will trek up Kala Patthar the next day to witness the dawn over Mt. Everest and other peaks. You will take some time to take in the view before making your way back to Gorak Shep and then down to Pheriche Village.

We go back the same way to Pheriche, via lush pine and rhododendron woods, and on to Namche. Your EBC trek in Nepal ends with a domestic flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla and an international flight back home the next day.

Essential Information

Permits

You will need the following permits for your Everest trek:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: All trekkers entering Sagarmatha National Park, the location of the EBC Trek, must have this permission. For foreigners, the permit costs NPR 3,000.

  • Trekkers Information Management System Permit: In Nepal, this card is necessary for every trekker. For foreign travelers, the card costs NPR 2000.

  • Local Area Permit: All hikers entering the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, which includes the Everest Trek route, must have this permit. For all foreigners, the permit costs NPR 2000.

We will take care of all the required permits to make your Everest Trek easier and smoother

Accommodation

Everest Base Camp Travel prioritize the comfort and safety of our trekkers when selecting accommodations. The lodges chosen for this trek surpass standard teahouses in terms of amenities. While the majority of rooms are on a twin-sharing basis, our guides will assign accommodations based on gender. If you're a couple or prefer individual rooms within a group, kindly notify us before the trek, and we will arrange the necessary accommodations to suit your preferences.

The trek begins in Kathmandu, where trekkers typically stay in comfortable accommodations such as a 3-star hotel or a similar standard. These lodgings offer a pleasant and relaxing environment, allowing travellers to rest and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Once your trek begins, the majority of your accommodations during the trek will be in traditional teahouses. These teahouses, scattered along the trail, provide cozy rooms with basic furnishings.

While the lodgings may vary in comfort, each teahouse offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing you to experience the local hospitality. The teahouses also offer communal dining areas where trekkers can share their experiences and forge new connections.

Regarding bathroom facilities along the trek, teahouses generally have shared bathrooms with basic amenities such as hot showers. These facilities offer basic amenities, including hot showers, serving as a welcome respite after a day of trekking. Despite their simplicity, these bathrooms are well-maintained and adhere to high hygiene standards, ensuring a clean and sanitary environment.

As you ascend higher into the Everest region, particularly above Lobuche, the teahouses become more basic in terms of amenities due to the challenging environment. Despite the simplicity, they offer a unique and authentic experience, allowing you to immerse yourself in the raw beauty of the Himalayas.

In the case of an accommodation upgrade

Private Room

If you want a private room during your trip, inform us before the trek so we can arrange accordingly. But sometimes, because of limited space, it might not be possible to get a private room, especially if you want to stay above Lobuche. But we will make sure you have a good place in town to stay throughout the EBC Trek. (Extra cost applied.)

Upgrade Hotel

To upgrade your hotel in Kathmandu or lodges in Everest, contact us or mention while booking the trek to use our Addons to upgrade your room. (Extra cost applied.)

Food

Food is an essential factor during your Everest trek. For most days, we will provide you with simple, basic food like Dal Bhat Tarkari, which is a powerful soup consisting of lentils, rice, and veggies. This meal provides a fantastic supply of protein and energy, both of which are necessary while you are hiking. Other Nepali cuisine that is provided includes thukpa (noodle soup), momos (dumplings), and sherpa curry.

There are other Western alternatives offered, including spaghetti, pizza, and burgers. However, as the altitude increases and you ascend higher, such Western foods are limited or not available in higher-altitude places. You will only get basic food like dal bhat when you ascend to higher altitudes.

We will provide you with an abundance of delectable cuisine for you to enjoy on your Everest Trek, regardless of your budget or dietary requirements. Once we finish the EBC Trek and arrive at Kathmandu, our team will host a farewell dinner to celebrate the success of your journey with us.

Altitude Sickness

Acute mountain sickness (AMS), another name for altitude sickness, is a common illness that occurs to hikers on the EBC Trek. The symptoms, which include headaches, exhaustion, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness, arise from the body's inability to adapt to the thin air at high elevations.

The best defense against altitude sickness is appropriate acclimatization, which entails a multi-day ascent to higher elevations. This enables your body to adapt to the drop in oxygen saturation. Despite that, drinking enough water and avoiding alcohol and caffeine during your Everest trek will also help.

Difficulty

Our package is designed for all ages and fitness levels so that they can successfully finish the demanding but achievable trek to Everest Base Camp. Although the journey is not technically challenging, it does demand a desire to acclimate to the high altitude and an acceptable level of fitness.

The altitude is the primary challenge in the trek to Everest Base Camp. Beginning at about 2,800 meters (9,200 feet), the walk ascends to 5,364 meters (17,598 feet), the location of Everest Base Camp. This implies that throughout the course of the hike, hikers will need to climb more than 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) of height.

Despite altitude sickness, the cold weather and rough terrain can also be major challenges on your way. However, with the right amount of carefulness and planning before trekking, such difficulties can be minimized.

Important Note

Here are some useful tips that will surely help you prepare before and after your trek to Everest Base Camp.

  • Before booking for your Everest Trek, make sure you are updated and have some knowledge about the Everest region, including its weather.
  • If you are suffering from any health conditions, have a thorough checkup done.

    Is travel insurance mandatory?

Travel insurance is a must for everyone planning to trek to Mount Everest. Trekkers taking on this demanding trip will find themselves in one of the most isolated and high-altitude places on Earth, so adequate coverage is essential. Comprehensive medical coverage, evacuation insurance, and cover for trip cancellations or interruptions due to unforeseeable situations like weather, illness, or accident should all be included in the travel insurance policy for the EBC Trek. Planning ahead for insurance is essential for this amazing journey, as it guarantees that trekkers can receive timely medical attention and evacuation in case of need, as well as peace of mind, given the potential risks associated with high altitudes and remote locations.

A 30 to 40-liter daypack is what we recommend. It is advised to use hip belts and wider straps to help you bear weight more evenly and to lessen discomfort.

  • What if I get sick in the mountains?

Throughout the walk, our guides are on call around the clock to provide assistance. They know how to use an oxygen meter and have received training in using first aid kits. They are fully aware that the oxygen level decreases with altitude; therefore, they check our client's oxygen level to determine whether they are fit to go or if they require further safety measures.

Guides always have local SIM cards with them, from Ncell to Nepal Telecom, so they can stay up to speed on each client's location and circumstances. In an emergency, our guides are vigilant and stay in contact with the head office in Kathmandu, which is open around the clock to make necessary arrangements, such as arranging for horses, mules, or helicopters, especially in situations when a customer is really ill on the mountain and has to be taken to the hospital.

Is there an oxygen supply if needed?

Yes, higher-altitude guesthouses like Lobuche and Gorak Shep provide oxygen upon request for an additional fee. Since oxygen can be expensive, we advise getting travel insurance so you can be reimbursed. For an additional USD 150 per tank, we can arrange for pre-arranged oxygen to be brought with you on your hike from Namche to higher altitudes.

Will the guides have a first-aid kit?

Yes, guides will have first-aid kits available throughout the trek. We have highly qualified guides with first aid certifications. Using an oximeter, our guides will assess your condition and oxygen level during the trek.

  • Trekking to Everest Base Camp: Best trek till now

This trek has gotta be one of the best ones I've done so far. The ever-changing landscape, the local tea shop and its owner, the Nepali grub, the daily weather rollercoaster, and our guide all of it were bloody exceptional. The flight to Lukla Airport was the real standout of the trek.

Mate, you've gotta visit Lukla Airport at least once in your life to get why it's called the world's dodgiest airport. The dinky planes, lack of ATC and radar, the rapid descent on landing, and the short, uphill runway it's a real experience. Just thinking about that flight gives me shivers every time. And being at base camp, flying the Aussie flag, was another top moment. That feeling is hard to put into words. You just gotta feel it and stash it in your memory bank to cherish forever.
